Founded in late 2006 as one small store in New Orleans in an area that flooded during hurricane Katrina, Naked Pizza (originally named World's Healthiest Pizza) was launched as an ambitious business model that seeks to change the nutritional profile of fast food. By way of example, Naked Pizza is demonstrating that pizza does not have to be part of the problem in our global epidemic of obesity and chronic disease, but in fact can be part of the solution.
We believe enough is enough: it's time the pizza industry rolled up its sleeves and repositioned pizza in the way people want to eat. More than ever, consumers want healthy alternatives. We see the nutrition and health wave sweeping the world as an opportunity for our industry -- something we call PIZZA 2.0. Those in the pizza industry who do not adapt and evolve with healthier choices will soon be left behind - as they should.
Our crust is made from an Ancestral Blend® of ten grains plus prebiotic agave fiber and probiotics (healthful bacteria like the ones found in yogurt for balance and digestive health), bound by water and made by hand. The grains we use include oats, brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth, teff, spelt, tapioca, and two kinds of wheat. This diversity of grains, fiber and probiotics are the main reason for that satisfied feeling you get after eating Naked Pizza; these special ingredients contribute a slow, sustained release of energy without the crash that comes from eating other single grain, highly processed pizzas.
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria cultures that live in your digestive system, help optimize nutrition and promote balance and digestive health. You may have heard about probiotics in yogurt. Ours are the same, but have the added benefit of being able to endure harsher conditions. Unlike probiotics in yogurt, ours can survive the heat of the baking process and stomach acids. This allows them to reach the lower digestive system, which is precisely where they need to be.
A prebiotic is essentially fiber that is food for the health- giving bacteria (probiotics) in your gut. Ours is one of the highest quality fibers available, extracted from the ancient blue agave plant, adding a slight touch of sweet without any sugar crash.

Yep. Most of the other guys' highly processed pies feature a crust made from a single grain, stripped of its nutrition to make a white flour. To your body, these highly processed carbs are the same as a great big handful of pure sugar, resulting in a flood of insulin to your system which makes for all kinds of nasty business. Conversely, our pizza (your pizza too) is more slowly digested, so less insulin dump, more optimizing of nutrition, a satisfying feeling without the crash and icky feeling you get post other guys' 'za. Plus it burns more calories because it digests slowly. Typically, other pizzas also add sugar to the dough and sauce, extend the cheese by cutting it with oil, and use butter and/or hydrogenated oils. Umm, not good.
No. While we have fewer calories by comparison, our pizzas are made to be part of your active lifestyle. Real, delicious food that's also good for you. Don't laugh—we intend to launch the world's largest grassroots health movement. We'll do that by making a delicious, affordable, all-natural pizza and delivering it to your home, hot, in about 25 minutes. Every time. Still round, still comes in a square box. But also, Naked Pizza is an honest place on the landscape of a pizza industry. We're simply pointing out that all that money spent on pizza and invested in building stores, hiring people, sourcing ingredients, etc., along with the millions of farmers and suppliers and regulators and Oprahs involved along the way—can be mobilized in a better way.
